I have mentioned it before, and I will say it again; one of the things I truly miss since living in the Caribbean (I should improve my garden) is going to wonderful flower shops, filled with sweet scents, ranges of flowers and abundence of colour to buy an absurd amount of flowers to fill my house with. To wake up in the mornings and see, in full bloom, the most delightful and unique flowers that can only make you smile.
So, if you live near one of these splendid boutique flower-shops, brighten up your day and spoil yourself (and your home) with some truly amazing flowers (or better yet, buy them for someone and brighten up their day).

As you wake up to the yellow butterflies, the shining sun and the sheer happiness at the thought that it is Friday today; make sure to smile many smiles and to put all your energy to good use. And if you have the time; have a cupcake (and a cocktail tonight)(It's Friday.....It's allowed)!

centrale
Centrale
Built in 2001
Beirut, Lebanon
Architect Bernard Khoury
Our last night in Beirut we went to a great place called Centrale for some drinks (dodo shots to be exact....a seemingly delicious yet quite spicy drink with an olive…of course). The restaurant is housed on the ground floor in a large open, yet cozy space. The ceilings are high and stop where the bar begins. The bar, almost hanging, in the building is accessible by elevator (one of the coolest elevators I have ever seen….lounge bed included). The Centrale Bar is a round tube (to put is lightly) which hangs on top of the restaurant, has ceilings which open during the summer and is architecturally very interesting to see. Certainly a must go to place while in Beirut .

Though we only had a very short stay in China, it was a very productive one. From walking on the Great Wall (frozen feet and blue skies included), taking in the colours of the Forbidden city and eating some wonderful Hot Pot in a bright restaurant where we were the only tourists, to buying my favourite Pu'erh tea; the few hours spent in Beijing were truely memorable. I am now enjoying a wonderful cup of tea, and remember all the little details (and immense structures) that were part of that moment in time.
Pu'erh tea has been a part of daily life in China for over 2,000 years and is commonly referred to as "medicinal" tea for its many health benefits. Pu erh tea, the original tea, comes from the ancient tea trees of Xishuangbanna in China's pristine Yunnan Province.
Enjoy your morning and afternoon tea and have a day filled with smiles.

There were only 12 hours, in between two 13 hour flights (I am sane, don't worry) that were spent in the wonderful and impressive city of Beijing and a short visit to the Great Wall. The sheer size of everything was astonishing. The colours so vibrant, the food (more food) absolutely delicious and the Great wall incredibly enchanting (we were the only ones on the Wall at that moment. It was so special).

There is only so much you can plan or anticipate when going on a trip. I love to read about destinations, special places and exciting adventures to include in any vacation; to indulge in the “pre-journey”, to drift away in the dreamaverse of what I might discover in faraway places. Though it always turns out quite different (always in a better way) than any of the imaginations, I continue this wonderful ‘hobby’ of travel-dreaming. Cities are usually very unlike anything you read about them, not because the stories are untrue, but because you experience it is your own way, you perceive it from your perspective and it becomes part of you in a unique way. For the past two and a half weeks I had the privilege of traveling to some very impressive places, with great company, lots of laughs, ancient history, modern decadence and all the adrenaline that one can handle (ok... maybe just me, but the 240km an hour rollercoaster really did take its toll on my body). The mini world trip was simply amazing.
The full account of the trip will come; it will take some time to write. One very important aspect I must mention before hand is that it seems that you can check the weather every day in the hope to know what to encounter anywhere in the world and that all preparation can be considered quite useless (not always of course…. I hope). I think the ‘weather-man’ is a very positive person, one that hopes the weather will be the way he predicted (I am all for being positive …don’t get me wrong), however, it was significantly colder at every destination we visited (which can add charm…think snow on the Great Wall; absolutely gorgeous) and did not always feel very accommodating. Though at times, an inconvenience, the weather in all its glory did add the icing on the cake. (or was it the snow on the mountains?). You can only prepare so much, everything else will be a pleasant surprise that will keep you captivated for years to come.
